The JW Marriot Group after Mumbai has launched its second hotel in India in Chandigarh.
JW Marriott Chandigarh is located in the middle of the India’s most well planned city at Sector-35. This hotel has to offer 122 deluxe rooms, 38 executive rooms, four junior suits and one Presidential suite elegantly designed in a unique open layout. Covering an area of 2 million square feet this property can be easily accessible by any route. Chandigarh being a gateway city it can also be a good pit stop for going to key tourist destination of north India.
Wilson Associates from Singapore and Karen Kim team up to bring out contemporary design in this structure and with the touch of North Indian architecture. Keeping in the mind the design that Swiss French architect Le Corbusier thought of when he planned the Chandigarh city, the linear patterns. A lot of importance is given on the principle of straight lines, greenery and space.
The entrance gives an impressive welcome with beautiful crafted water bodies and flaming torches, giving the interiors warmth and creating a perfect environment to work, stay and relax. Simple but elegant natural materials like travertine stone and sycamore woods have been used in the front lobby. There is an extensive use of precious stone around the hotel like Green Onyx and Honey Onyx.
As one enters towards Front Desk, is welcome with variety of artwork which is displayed all over the hotel which is a 3D depiction of the booming Indian economy. Then lobby is home to a metal sculpture displayed on the wall, representing tree. The tree is India and the branches are reaching out to the world. Natural light streams in through the large window in the lobby, with the guest seating area extending to an outdoor seating surrounded by water bodies and plants. Making it a perfect place to unwind. At the other end there is Chandigarh Baking Company with all kinds of cakes and cookies on display in big wooden shelf.
The Grand Ballroom has a majestic ceiling height of over six meters, adorned with crystal chandeliers. The available area of 16500 sq feet includes indoor and outdoor space for meeting and banqueting facilities. It can be further divisible into four break away hall which can accommodate around 900 people. Other facilities include business center, The Living Room. It is based on the concept of New York style apartments, a space for business meeting with difference, giving you comfort and casual environment. Like they have open kitchen, a longing area and an open foyer. Each room is equipped with a large drop down screen with lift projectors and a surround sound audio-visual system.
On the first floor next to the elevator, Indian fine dinning restaurants Saffron is located. The décor of the dinning area has polished wooden floors washed with soft lighting and the vibrant use of copper mirrors through out the walls which plays interestingly with the light. Just adjacent to it is The Café which serves international cuisine starting from Thai sea-food to Italian pizza. To create more interaction with costumer they have open kitchen, one can cook food his way. A lot of woods and leathers are used in the interiors and furniture to give a homely touch.
Then comes the accommodation on third floor, a wide range of amenities and services are available in all the 48 square feet room. The end walls of the guest rooms are treated in metal and glass materials providing a modern and contemporary look to the building. Corbrusier inspired paneling are used in the room. The colour palette with soft beige and rust–orange with walnut-timber flooring gives soothing effect to the room. An ancient of ‘India’ is found on the bed throw made from rich coloured silk embroidered sari material, all blending harmoniously for an intimate and residential mood.
And the Presidential Suite raises the bar of luxury and comfort. It occupies an area of 800 square feet and a bird’s eye view of the city. The suite is done beautifully with opulent chandeliers and finest furnishing and décor with ample space on sixth floor.
The rooftop swimming pool offers a panoramic view of the city and is surrounded by a glass enclosure which creates an impression of space and openness.
Landscape design of the hotel is inspired by Le Corbusier’s master planning and the garden city concept. The outdoor garden has been created keeping open space and privacy in mind. With plants at different level and a water body flanking the garden, it just blends in with the beautiful serene environments of the city.
